Another audio portrait from an ongoing project.
Monday, July 28th, 2008Another shot from a project I am working on at the Richmond News, which will hopefully run in the coming weeks. Rick Hansen is a hero and inspiration to many, and is a Canadian icon. In this brief interview he explains his history and some of the work that the Rick Hansen Foundation is doing.
Richmond Homocide.
Tuesday, April 15th, 2008This was a difficult assignment. I went to photograph the grieving parents of a man the same age as me who was stabbed to death the night before. My only hope in photographing in these situations is to do justice to the memory of the person whose life was tragically taken away. It’s a sad, sad, story and could only give my condolences to the family for their loss. -Brett.

Scientology Protest Article up.
Saturday, April 12th, 2008I dug up some more Medium Format shots from the Scientology protest I photographed about a month ago. Sean has posted his article about the event, along with my photos, over on his blog www.skinnyirishbastard.com

Current Personal Project
Thursday, April 10th, 2008I am currently working on a project shooting film in my Hasselblad. I am taking “portraits” of peoples hands in the community to show people who are out creating, producing, working, and improving. So much of the story of someone can be told from their hands. It has made me challenge my own thinking on exactly what a “portrait” is and how there are really no rules when it comes to categorizing photographs. More pictures to follow as soon as I can get them scanned in.

Another Film Scan.
Wednesday, March 12th, 2008A shot from the Vancouver protest against Scientology, which was happening all over the world on February 10th. A group of protesters were set up outside the church, referring to themselves simply as “Anonymous.”

This was shot on a Hasselblad 500C/M and Tri-X film, scanned on a Canoscan 8800f.
I just figured out how to include that sweet signature Hasselblad border on my scans, so I am very excited to post some of my more recent medium format work in the coming days and weeks.
