Non-stop Computer Screen.

Sunday, November 2nd, 2008

Although my eyes are glazing over from spending so much time in front of my laptop screen editing my footage from Rwanda, my short documentary piece is starting to come together and I am smiling and laughing while looking at the footage of the kids. It is really cool to have the footage and be able to be right back there and see the smiles on their faces. When I was there I was too into the moment of teaching and talking and filming to pick up on the minute details of the situation at the time, and the video I shot really makes me appreciate having it, if for no reason other than as a personal memento.

Eddie Adams Starts Today

Friday, October 10th, 2008

I’m off to take the train into Manhattan. The Eddie Adams workshop starts today, and I don’t think I will have much time to blog about it until it is finished. Anyways, here is a shot from Wall Street yesterday. _mg_9166.jpg

Bridges.

My metaphoric photo of the day. We are Building Bridges with Rwanda. Things are happening, and it is exciting to be in such a place where every day there are challenges, setbacks, hope, victory. bridge.jpg

Sticking out like a sore thumb.

I went out shooting with one of my team leaders, Shem, yesterday. He is a keener, has really taken to photography and he is getting to really start to get the hang of it. I found this shot while going through all of his photos, and thought it was amazing. I remember this EXACT moment when I let out a Sasquatch-like moan after the legion of kids had been following me forever and I couldn’t shoot anything without being swarmed. I LOVE this photo. It shows the power of photography to me in the fact that it takes me back to this EXACT moment in time. brettcrazy.jpg
And the proceeding photo I took to get the kids to go away. Cute.

NPAC Photojournalism 2008

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

It was another amazing year for the conference, and the comments so far have been overwhelmingly positive, which makes me feel good about all the time put in on the phone and emailing trying to bring in a good set of speakers. I was running around too much to take too many photos, but here are a few I found from the weekend:

Lansdowne Centre Photo Shoot

Tuesday, March 4th, 2008

Well fashion stuff typically isn’t my forte’, not necessarily because a lack of interest but because I am staying pretty busy with my day-to-day work. Anyways I went out on Saturday to do a photo shoot for Lansdowne Centre. The photos are being used in upcoming magazine ads, and they wanted a variety of different shots. So we went outside of the mall and shot some with the girls in a variety of different outfits, but when it came to the grad dresses I told them I wanted to head out to the Garden City Lands, about a block away. I think the shot worked out, I really liked all the straw around them. It was a little tricky getting in there, and parts can be somewhat swamp-like, but the girls were up for it and it worked out.

Sunday Ride.

Sunday, March 2nd, 2008

I went with Liam and Luke on a ride around Vancouver today, it was great getting the my old yellow Peugeot back in action. We decided to see if we could go out underneath the Ironworker’s Memorial, and sure enough there is a cool little path through the forest, and a darn cool tree fort to climb up in with a great view of the inlet.
