One of the most visited places in a house or apartment is the bathroom. Therefore, everything in it should be as comfortable and functional as possible.
What aspects are important to pay attention to?
Before you go to the store to select a bath, you should determine how you will use it. Will the bath serve you for relaxation or just as a device in which you can wash? Even for little money, you can find a comfortable acrylic bathtub, which is pleasant to lie in.
Then measure the room – this is the second important point. There are situations when the bathtub is already purchased, but the room is too small. The bath should not block access to other plumbing and furniture. At least one person should have enough space to comfortably wipe with a towel.
Decide where the bath will be located. Location is also important: think about how communications will fit in the bathtub. Make sure that they can be easily reached in case of breakage or the need to replace plumbing elements. It is better to choose a bathtub with a screen than to wrap it tightly with tiles.
Pay attention to the shape of the room, whether there are any protrusions or other elements in it. So, in a normal room of a rectangular shape with straight walls, you can perfectly place any bathroom. If there are other elements, then bathtubs of a non-standard shape (angular, round, asymmetric, etc.) are more suitable for you.
Types of bathtubs
Today’s bath market is represented by a huge assortment. Bathtubs vary in material type, size, shape, color, and manufacturers.
Bathtubs have several standards that define parameters. The dimensions of the bath are important so that you do not have any problems during installation and operation. Size is especially important for small bathrooms. If you have not started the repair, and the bathroom has only bared walls, choose a bath with a margin: the tile will eat, on average, 2 centimeters of each wall.
Bathrooms are available in standard sizes from 150 to 180 cm and non-standard – from 2 meters. The usual width of the bath is from 75 to 100 cm, and there are also non-standard sizes. The standard bath depth is 65 cm; there are fewer and deeper options. To choose the perfect bath, you need to take into account the growth and complexion of all family members. I agree that you cannot completely relax in the bathtub from which the knees protrude.
Remember that the gap between the wall and the side should not be more than 3 mm. Then it can be easily closed with construction sealant or special tape. A large gap can be closed with waterproof gyprock and tiled.
Types of bathtubs according to the material of manufacture
Modern conditions and technologies make it possible to produce bathtubs not only from traditional materials (cast iron, steel, and acrylic) but also from wood, stone or glass.
Cast iron bathtub
The most popular material. It is characterized by durability and strength. The life of such a bath is up to 25 years. A feature is the high heat capacity.
Enamel is most resistant to damage such as scratches and corrosion. But even with a damaged coating, the bath will last a decent amount of time.
Also, the advantage of the bath is its unpretentiousness in care.
One of the drawbacks of a cast iron bathtub is its heavyweight (some models reach 150 kg) and the difficulty in climbing to high floors and during installation. The price of this type of bath is quite high. At the same time, the design does not differ in variety.
The most famous manufacturers of these bathtubs: the company Universal, the Spanish company Roca and the French Jacob Delafon.
Bathtubs are made of two types of steel: stainless and structural. Structural steel looks very similar to cast iron. The maximum thickness is almost 5 mm and the minimum is 2.5 mm. As enamel, acrylic enamel is used. This type of bath is very affordable due to low prices.
Such bathtubs are quite light, they are convenient to transport and install. A standard steel bath weighs about 30 kg at a thickness of 3 mm. There is also a large selection in terms of design decisions. Of the minuses – high noise and low heat capacity. However, there are a number of ways that help reduce noise.
Stainless steel is less common as a bath material – possibly due to the high price. A stainless steel bath is not enameled.
Ways to reduce the noise level of a steel bath
Method 1. On the back of the bath, rubber or sheet rubber must be glued, Penofol and its analogs can also be used.
Method 2. Before installing the bath on the outer area (on the walls and the bowl itself), apply a layer of mounting foam, which will isolate the sound.
Well-known manufacturers of steel bathtubs: the German company Bette, Estep – Slovakia and the BLB company from Portugal, domestic companies – the Verkh-Isetsk Metallurgical Plant and the Lipetsk Pipe Plant.
